Houston Hobby (HOU)
Houston's secondary commercial airport — significant corporate GA, 24/7 ops, Southwest Airlines hub, and the strongest ad-hoc charter demand in Texas.
About Houston Hobby
Hobby is the older of Houston's two Class B commercial airports (IAH took over as the primary in 1969). Today it anchors Southwest Airlines' Houston operations and simultaneously hosts one of the most active corporate general aviation ramps in the US. Three FBOs compete for business, hangar inventory is tight but turns over, and the field is attractive for operators who need commercial-grade infrastructure, 24/7 ATC, and fast access to downtown + the Medical Center.

Common questions about Houston Hobby
Why operate corporate GA out of Hobby instead of IAH or Houston Executive?+
Hobby has the fastest downtown and Medical Center access of any Houston field, 24/7 Class B ATC, three competing FBOs (price discipline), and robust Part 145 presence. Downsides: higher fuel + ramp fees than Houston Executive, more congestion than Hooks, and tight hangar inventory. Right for operators who need commercial-grade reliability and center-city proximity.
How tight is hangar availability at Hobby?+
Historically tight. Larger corporate hangars (G5+ class) rarely come to market; when they do, they lease on waiting lists. Smaller hangar space (midsize jet class) turns over more frequently. Expect 12-24 months of lead time for a corporate build-to-suit on ground lease.
